The history of our beautiful city on the Danube has always been closely linked to the Ehingen brewers and the brewing industry based here. In the late 19th century, for example, there were already more than 20 active breweries in Ehingen. This tradition is still actively pursued and filled with life today. In our unique Lifestyle Inn Paula’s Alb in the heart of the old town of Ehingen where we make the centuries-old brewing tradition and beer culture come alive again. In 1899 the first Ehingen draught wheat beer was brewed in the former Golden Adler brewery. Now managed by the fifth generation, we revive the old brewer’s heart and revive the first Ehinger draught wheat beer in Paula’s Alb, of course by the name “Golden Eagle”.
BREWERIES IN EHINGEN: A LOOK AT HISTORY
The city of Ehingen has long attracted beer lovers from Germany and the whole world to the beautiful Swabian Alb. Here, visitors can enjoy historically evolved breweries and a varied range of different beers. Or you can enjoy the fresh air while walking along the 14 km long beer hiking trail, which was voted one of the 30 most beautiful hiking trails in Germany in 2010. The Ehingen brewer Walter Wender was even mentioned in the town history as early as 1384. The next milestone came in 1875 when the town of Ehingen was awarded the gold medal for its hop quality at the Tettnang Hop Exhibition. In 1877 another gold medal was awarded in Nuremberg. Since winning the “Tourist Ideas Competition Gourmet State Baden-Württemberg” in 2009, the town has also described itself as a beer brewer town (Bierkulturstadt) and has thus made a name for itself nationwide.
